Janet Lefkowitz, D.O. recently joined AMIGS, having moved to Georgia from Rhode Island. She is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is licensed in Georgia, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Ohio. In Rhode Island, she served on clinical faculty at Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School and the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. As a teacher, she was recognized as the Community Based Teacher of the Year award two years in a row, in addition to numerous Excellence in Teaching awards. As a clinician, she provided Obstetrical and Gynecological care as part of the Women and Infants Hospital Alliance.
Dr. Lefkowitz received her undergraduate degree from Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY, having done additional undergraduate work at Columbia University of New York and Oxford University in England. She graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Maine in 2001. Her post graduate training includes a rotating medical internship at Delaware County Memorial Hospital in Drexel Hill, PA and a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford Connecticut.
Her interest in working with women of all ages with varying healthcare concerns led Dr. Lefkowitz to the field of gynecology. Dr. Lefkowitz believes that communication is essential to building a strong and trusting doctor/patient relationship. She enjoys the process of helping women achieve their own healthcare goals.
Dr. Lefkowitz was recently certified as a Mohelet by the Berit Milah Board of Reform Judaism of the Hebrew Union College to perform ritual male circumcision. She is one of only two women in Georgia certified by the Union of Reform Judaism to perform Berit Milah.
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Lefkowitz enjoys exercising outdoors when possible and has recently begun rowing again, having been a competitive rower in college. She enjoys swimming and skiing and travelling, as well time with family and friends, and is a self-professed “foodie”. She is an active member of Temple Sinai in Sandy Springs where she lives with her husband and two teenage daughters.
